Moscow, Aug 9: Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov announced on Saturday that following the forthcoming summit in Alaska, the next encounter between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is expected to occur in Russia.
Ushakov stated, as reported by TASS news agency, "Looking ahead, we should naturally aim for the next meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump to be hosted on Russian soil." He added that an invitation has already been extended to the US President, according to Xinhua news agency.
Earlier today, as indications of a potential ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict emerged, Trump revealed plans for a significant summit with Putin scheduled for next Friday, which may influence the 25 percent punitive tariff imposed on India for purchasing Russian oil.
In a series of rapid developments, Trump announced on Truth Social, "The highly anticipated meeting between myself and Putin will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska."
He mentioned that more details would be provided soon in his post on Truth Social.
This announcement came swiftly after Trump expressed disappointment with Putin just a day prior, despite acknowledging progress in their discussions.
Before the summit announcement, Trump remarked, "President Putin, I believe, wants to see peace, and [Ukraine’s President] Zelensky wants to see peace now."
He added, "I think that a lot of things happened recently that would make this go forward," while refraining from discussing anything related to India, hinting at the punitive tariff.
On Wednesday, he specifically pointed out India regarding the 25 percent tariff for acquiring Russian oil, which was perceived as a strategy to exert economic pressure on Moscow by encouraging New Delhi to reduce oil revenue for Russia.
